In 1882, Father Jeremiah Quinlan oversaw the completion of the first Saint Joseph Church in Winchester. From 1879 to 1941, the parish was a mission of Saint Mary in Union City. In 1941, Saint Joseph became a mission of Immaculate Conception in Portland. Bishop Bennent assigned a resident pastor in 1952. Father George Askar directed the construction of a new church building, completed in 1978. Beginning 2003, Saint Joseph has shared a priest with Saint Mary, Union City. In 2020, the parish was clustered into the Holy Family Pastorate.
